Abstract

This thesis investigates the accessibility and readability of multilingual university websites by examining their correlation in Swiss and Italian higher institutions’ websites. Through the evaluation of 50 universities via automated tools and user testing, this research uncovers correlations between web accessibility and readability and examines potential disparities in the two countries' university websites. Our results demonstrate the following aspects: Switzerland has obtained higher scores than Italy overall; the correlation between the analysed webpages is weak for both web accessibility and Italy; there is disparity between the results from the automated tools and the user participation test. We anticipate our research to be a starting point for deeper research about web accessibility and multilingual aspects on university websites, hopefully including different ranges of users.
