Abstract

The GRID instrument has generated an extraordinary set of data specifying precise feature profiles for the meaning of emotion words in 24 different languages covering most of the major language families in the world. The extraordinary results are likely to generate further research using the GRID paradigm. To facilitate these efforts we have developed two short forms of the full GRID instrument, reducing the number of items to save administration time while allowing for comparable structural information on the emotion terms to be rated. The CoreGRID instrument consists of 68 items sufficient to reproduce the overall four-factor structure and the factorial structure of the individual components, as well as to maintain a high degree of discrimination (a loss of only 2% in classification accuracy compared to the full GRID). The MiniGRID consists of only 16 of the most discriminative items. It allows to reproduce the overall structure with an extremely high degree of accuracy (CoreGRID factors correlated with FullGRID factors in a range of .87 to ,97)
