Abstract

This research aimed at investigating the influence of socioeconomic status (SES) on people's capacity to behave in a prosocial manner, retaliate when aggressed and on their ability to recognise emotions in facial expressions. Based on our review of the literature and on the hypothesis of Kraus, Piff, Mendoza-Denton, Rheinschmidt, & Keltner (2012) that lower class individuals are more dependent and oriented towards their social environment than upper class individuals are, we predicted that lower SES subjects would be more aggressive, but also more prosocial than higher SES subjects and would have better emotion perception capacity...
