Abstract

The purpose of this Master thesis is to analyse the function of neologisms and the possible translation strategies for these particular lexemes in the framework of literature translation from English into German. The analysed corpus, the first book of ‘The Hunger Games' by Suzanne Collins and its translation, represents the genre of dystopian literature where neologisms appear with high frequency. Based on Hewson's approach to translation criticism, the paper examines the translation strategies used for the transfer of the neologisms of ‘The Hunger Games' into the target text and compares their interpretational effects on the source text reader with the interpretational effects on the target text reader.
