Abstract Oxidative stress has proved to be involved in a panel of diseases, including neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases and cancer. In the case of neurodegenerative diseases, their multifactorial origin has promoted the research for molecules with multiple biological activities, capable of combining for instance neuroprotective and antioxidant properties, as well as the ability to penetrate into the central nervous system. In this context, and as part of a continuing collaboration with organic chemists, this work aims to analyse the antioxidant activity of newly synthetized flavonoids derivatives in order to rationalize the correlation between the electronic and molecular structure of flavonoids with its scavenging activity. The 49-set of flavonoid synthetic derivatives selected for this study includes 20 chalcones (Figures 1 and 2) and 29 aurones (Figures 3 and 4).
