Swiss Environmental Domains (SwissED) is an environmental classification of the territory based on key climatic, geologic and topographic variables that influence both natural and anthropogenic processes at various scales. It constitutes a new spatial framework to analyse data about our environment (e.g. biodiversity, land cover, demo- graphy, agriculture, economic activities) that does not replace existing ones (cantons, biogeographical regions), but simply complements them. Swiss Environmental Domains (SwissED) ist eine naturräumliche Gliederung für Gebiete, welche auf klimatischen, geologischen und topografischen Variablen basieren und sowohl natürliche wie anthropogene Prozesse auf verschiedenen Stufen beeinflus- sen. SwissED präsentiert ein neues räumliches Bezugssystem für die Datenanalyse unserer Umwelt (z.B. Biodiversität, Landbedeckung, Demografie, Landwirtschaft, ökonomische Aktivitäten) und vervollständigt die bereits existierenden Analyseraster (Kantone, biogeografische Regionen). Les domaines environnementaux de Suisse (SwissED) proposent une classification environnementale du territoire, basée sur des variables climatiques, géologiques ou topographiques qui influencent à la fois les processus naturel et anthropiques à diffé- rentes échelles. Ils représentent un nouveau cadre spatial pour analyser les données de notre environnement (par ex. biodiversité, couverture du sol, démographie, agriculture, activités économiques) et complètent ainsi les cadres d'analyse existants (cantons, zones biogéographiques). Detti domini rappresentano un nuovo quadro spaziale per l'analisi di dati relativi al nostro ambiente (ad es. biodi- versità, copertura del suolo, demografia, agricoltura, attività economiche) e completano i quadri d'analisi esistenti (Cantoni, zone biogeografiche).
