Abstract

The present Master thesis analyses the relation between translators and computer aided tools (CAT) in the ICRC context. It describes the functions and use of SDL Trados Studio 2009 and the way the organization migrated from Trados 2007 in 2011. Taking the EAGLES report as framework, it suggests a model to evaluate the adaptability of a translation memory in the humanitarian organization. In the light of a user survey conducted by the author at the ICRC linguistic department, the paper concludes that there is a lack of motivation among the translators to use CAT tools. The organization could make the most of the software if it would let participate the translators in the decision-making migration process and improve the integration of the tool in the whole workflow.
