This research aims to study the use of non-alphanumeric characters in the language for special purposes used by LGBTQIA+ associations, and especially in its terminology, in Swiss French and Italian. To study this, two specialised comparable corpora were created with webpages and written texts extracted from monolingual websites of Swiss LGBTQIA+ associations written between the years 2019 and 2023. Using a concordancer, the non-alphanumeric characters were searched, which allowed a term extraction. The following conclusions were drawn: the non-alphanumeric characters mostly found are the plus (+) and asterisk (*). These characters are always used with the intention of opening the definition of the term to include more identities. These characters have some importance in this terminology and could be used in other terminologies, but it is important to consider that there is a certain vagueness that comes with them. It is also unclear to what extent their use will be lasting.
