This research focuses on legal translation and explores the use of bilingual dictionaries in the translation of legal texts, where terminology is crucial. Successful legal translation requires not only a precise understanding of the legal term but also a real consideration of contextual variables. The primary objective of the study is to examine the use of French-Arabic bilingual legal dictionaries in translating legal texts and evaluate their effectiveness in determining the relevant terminological choices. A practical study involving MA translation students was carried out. Participants translated two legal texts from French to Arabic, containing specific terminological difficulties, relying on online and printed resources, including legal dictionaries. A structured questionnaire followed to identify the specific dictionaries used and the preferred online resources consulted. The findings indicate that students conducted additional contextual research beyond dictionaries to make their terminological choices. Moreover, the study reveals that the relevance of dictionary suggestions is generally lower than expected, highlighting the limitations of these tools in the field of legal translation.
