The concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) can be a strategic tool for the commercial banks to effectively perform their responsibilities towards different stakeholders, as well as to support the sustainable development in the country where they operate. The banking sector in Georgia is one of the well-developed and strong financial institutions of the country which ensures a robust and stable financial system, as well as plays a key role in the economic growth. Focusing on CSR and sustainability practices, implemented by the banking industry in Georgia, enables us to analyze the successful models of CSR implementation. The main goal of the study is to analyze the key drivers for the leading commercial banks operating in Georgia, to implement socially responsible practices and CSR activities based on their perception of the Corporate Social Responsibility concept.

Additionally, the thesis aims to examine how the banking sector can contribute to sustainable development of the country through sustainable finance and ESG practices. Understanding the impact of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of commercial banks on their financial performance is beyond the main scope of the research which may be an interesting research direction for the future.
