Abstract

Cultural adaptation in web localization has been a widely studied topic and theorists agree on their positively influence on the way users receive the localized product. The aim of this research is to analyse cultural adaptation in the localization in five countries of the European Union official tourist websites. The method employed was designed for the evaluation of websites cultural adaptation. We have evaluated the presence of four of the five Hofstede's cultural dimensions Hofstede (2001) and we have also identified Hall's dimensions called the high context vs. low context Hall (1989). Our evaluators identified cultural differences between the original website and the localized versions in four of the five evaluated website. These findings confirm that cultural differences between original websites and theirs localized versions are evidenced in the web localization of the studied official tourist websites.
