Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to analyse the profession of sworn translators and court interpreters in order to understand their situation in Germany and Austria, to establish a comparison between the two countries and between their federal states, and to provide a general overview. To this end, the regulations of the European Union and the national and regional legislation of these two countries are examined, as well as practical recommendations given by their professional associations. This paper is a descriptive study with a comparative focus on aspects such as the title, the accreditation process and remuneration, among others. First, concepts such as sworn translation and judicial interpretation are defined. The literature review is based on a qualitative approach and the method of observation. Finally, the data obtained are analysed and reflected upon.
