Abstract

Things fall apart is a post-colonial novel which explores the nature of a pre-colonial African society and the contribution of colonialism to its downfall. Although not written in his native tongue, Chinua Achebe ( 1959) exploits the English language and its conventions to paint his own cultural story. This thesis aims at investigating the extent to which the translator manages to capture the content, style and authenticity of the original text in his Arabic translation. This will be done through a comparative analysis of the semantic, stylistic and linguistic devices used within both the original and translated text.
