Abstract

We presentanefficientphoton-echoexperimentbasedonatomicfrequencycombs[Phys.Rev.A79 (2009)052329].Echoescontaininganenergyofupto35%ofthatoftheinputpulseareobservedina Pr3+-doped Y2SiO5 crystal.Thismaterialallowsfortheprecisespectralholeburningneededtomakea sharpandhighlyabsorbingcombstructure.Wecompareourresultswithasimpletheoreticalmodel with satisfactoryagreement.Ourresultsshowthatatomicfrequencycombshasthepotentialforhigh- efficiencystorageofsinglephotonsasrequiredinfuturelong-distancecommunicationbasedon quantumrepeaters.
