Abstract

Despite the well-known uses of music in alternative medicine, its effect as an analgesic continues to be a largely under-investigated phenomenon. It is now well established that diverting attention from pain significantly reduces the intensity and unpleasantness of the painful stimuli. The same effect is observed when presenting pleasant stimuli, such as odors, words, and pictures.
