Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the film Out of the Furnace by Scott Cooper from the aesthetic and historical points of view rage and will to sacrifice oneself are the main emotions or attitudes in this 21th-century drama taking place in a depressed industrial Pennsylvania area near Pittsburgh at the time of the wars against Irak. Actors gestures and expressions; role of the soundtrack in enhancing the sense of destiny of the characters. Both resignation and spirit of revenge, and action of vindication characterize the main character interpreted by Christian Bale. The atmosphere is similar to that of William Faulkner novels. The film also clearly alludes to the cult movie from the 1970, Deer Hunter by Michael Cimino.
