Abstract According to the European curricula, one of the main objectives in the primary schools is to develop pupils’ communicative skills. The children learn how to communicate and understand progressively the language: its vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation patterns. At the same time, they have the opportunity to develop positive attitudes towards the languages and the learning in general. However, these requirements are not always easy to realise, especially by future teachers who are learning the profession. The present article gives insight into this issue, particularly from the teacher’s view. Its professional and didactic gestures are analysed from the theoretical and the practical point of view, showed on the example of one English lesson at the primary school in Geneva.
