The political, cultural and ideological aspects of news discourse pose specific translation problems. In order to address them correctly it is necessary to analyse the discourse of the press. This study focuses on journalistic translation for an independent news outlet in the United States (Democracy Now). It analyses the problems of translating aspects that are specific of the US political reality for a massive audience in Spanish. Furthermore, since the study is based on translation for an independent news program, which represents the discourse of minorities, it also analyses how this affects the translation of ideological terms, in particular. The need to solve these problems led to studying a corpus consisting of a selection of terms categorized according to the types of translation problems, to which solutions are provided. Besides reflecting on the political, cultural and ideological aspects of news discourse, the ideology of the media is also analysed. This is an overarching consideration in order to understand the context in which texts are produced and the culture for which they are translated.
