Abstract

A discussion of some of the challenges that translators have to face when translating French crime novels for an American audience. I argue that crime novels can be translated as a hybrid text : as a type of legal text, crime novels require a solid understanding of the law and legal language in order to ensure an effective and appropriate translation ; as a form of literature, crime novels must be translated with a view to producing an easy-to-read and entertaining story.
