This article addresses the role of institutional translators as language professionals on the front line of encountering neologisms from English. The linguistic competence of the translator is defended as an essential filter in processes of lexical importation; and the work of institutional language services, as benchmarks in specialized communication, is contextualized in relation to other agents of terminology management. The analysis of different examples of terminological harmonization and dispersion highlights the need for greater institutional coordination.
