Abstract

Gender-affirming hormone therapy can be used to alleviate gender dysphoria in transgender and non-binary individuals. However, the long-term effects of these treatments on reproductive health remain uncertain. Before initiating hormone therapy, it is essential that patients be fully informed about the potential implications for their reproductive capacity. Fertility preservation options, such as oocyte cryopreservation, should be offered to individuals assigned female at birth.

The SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) presented here focuses specifically on oocyte cryopreservation. The introduction, however, provides a broader overview of fertility, fertility preservation, and parenthood trajectories among transgender and non-binary individuals, in order to situate this technique within the broader landscape of reproductive care. This analysis aims to help healthcare professionals navigate the complexity of this care and ensure that decisions are both clinically appropriate and aligned with patients’ reproductive goals.
