Abstract

Digital resilience in adversarial environments refers the enacted capacity of interconnected actors to maintain or reorganize coordinated defensive capability through collective intelligence, knowledge integration, and adaptive coordination. The dissertation develops this perspective through conceptual analysis, empirical investigation of threat-intelligence sharing, and agent-based modeling. The conceptual contribution characterizes resilience as a dynamic socio-technical capability enacted across interdependent actors under uncertainty and time pressure. The empirical contributions show how distributed participation and accumulated experience accelerate threat characterization, and how distributed threat intelligence gains operational value when structured, linked, integrated, and reused across incidents. The modeling contributions explain how attacker-defender interaction, structural conditions, and behavioral incentives generate path-dependent response dynamics and recurrent resilience regimes, including stabilization, fragility, and reorganization. Overall, the dissertation advances a mechanism-based account of digital resilience as coordinated viability under adversarial pressure and offers a basis for analyzing, measuring, and governing resilience as an observable socio-technical process in collaborative practice.
