Abstract

Medical education, as an academic field of research, has experienced remarkably rapid growth in recent years and is now more commonly referred to as Health Professions Education (HPE). Research in this field is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of health professions training. However, despite its significant development, this field still faces major challenges. This article aims to examine these challenges along three key dimensions—epistemological, methodological, and organisational—and to offer recommendations for fostering research programmes that are coherent, sustainable, epistemologically and methodologically pluralistic, and supported by high-performing teams.
