This paper deals with the relationships between prosody and discourse, and more specifically between the stress system in French, and the information structure in spontaneous speech. Firstly, we try to identify both the intonative and information units – distinguishing between several levels of organization (semantics, syntax, etc.). Secondly, we focus on the “ rhematic area ” of each utterance and we analyse the different ways of displaying the informative elements with more or less salience, depending on their function in the subsequent speech. Finally, we identify different kinds of cooperation between syntactic relations, information organization and intonative units.
