Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic illness characterized by ­ multiple motor and non-motor symptoms that impact the quality of life of patients and their families. PD requires a patient-centered therapeutic approach. Therapeutic patient education (TPE) is an effective response to this challenge. TPE is a structured, person- centered learning process that supports patients in self-monitoring and self-management of their health by drawing on their own ­ resources. It promotes behavior changes from the moment of ­ diagnosis and throughout the disease course. Patients take an ­ active role in their own care. TPE has demonstrated its beneficial impact on health and economic outcomes in PD. It should be ­ systematically integrated into the pharmacological and non- pharmacological management of all patients living with PD.
