Abstract

Based on the questionnaire that we created, we tested the feasibility of a study aimed at trying to understand the lifestyle and eating habits of the elderly, to identify a possible association between diet and memory problems. With the help of the Alzheimer Vaud Association, questionnaires completed by the members and their family carers enabled us to notice that certain foods, such as pasta, pastries, and cakes, were eaten more frequently by people included in the study with memory problems. Eggs, seafood, and citrus fruit, for example, are eaten more frequently by people without memory problems in this sample. Both food and Alzheimer's disease have been linked in several studies to exacerbated inflammatory status. A personalized change in lifestyle and eating habits seems to be an avenue worth exploring to improve the health of elderly people, whether they have memory problems.
