Mitochondrial control of macrophage polarity in tumors

Abstract

Macrophages can foster pro- or anti-tumor immune environments. In this issue of Immunity, Clark et al. report that altering the composition of the mitochondrial electron transport chain reprograms macrophages toward a CXCL9hi SPP1lo immunostimulatory phenotype, thus amplifying anti-tumor immunity.
