Translation errors are a well-documented phenomenon across all fields, from legal and financial to medical and tourism translation. This study examines translation errors in tourism promotional texts translated from English into Spanish. A corpus was compiled from the tourism websites of seven major English-speaking cities and territories: Ireland, London, Miami, New York, San Francisco, Toronto, and Vancouver. Following a review of tourism translation, translation errors, and existing error typologies, it was determined that the most suitable methodology for identifying, classifying, and analyzing errors in the corpus was a mixed qualitative–quantitative approach, a mixed descriptive-comparative method, and using the error typology proposed by Hurtado (2018). The findings indicate that most errors were linguistic, followed by comprehension and pragmatic errors, and suggest that many of the texts were translated using machine translation, raising important questions of translation quality assurance and reliability in tourism translation.
