The very nature of creativity in translation is quite unpredictable - it differs with translators, genres and the type of text which is being translated. When considering creativity in literary translation, it can be hard to come up with a system to identify and analyse creative translation choices, considering the length and genre of these works. This paper focuses on the identification and assessment of creative instances in David Homel’s translation of Dany Laferrière’s L’Énigme du retour. This is done via a framework which is used to identify these instances and analyse them through a literary lens.
