This MA thesis conducts a descriptive analysis of Arabic dubbing choices in Disney animated films. It investigates the shift from Egyptian Dialect (ED) to Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and the recent return to dual-dialect releases (MSA & ED). Through semi-structured interviews with two key figures in the Arabic dubbing industry—one from the ED era and one from the current era—the study examines the interplay between linguistic norms, cultural context, and translational choices. The analysis reveals how translational strategies reflect evolving linguistic landscapes and market forces, impacting the balance between equivalence and cultural adaptation. This research contributes to audiovisual translation studies by offering a nuanced understanding of dubbing practices in the Arab world and the complex interaction between linguistic choices and cultural impact.
