Abstract Two complementary artificial diether phospholipids were synthesized that can undergo a Cu(I)-catalyzed Huisgen–Sharpless click reaction. The resulting lipid can bridge the membranes of large unilamellar vesicles and cause their aggregation and ultimately their fusion.
