Abstract

This article deals with the Reformed discourse on the wandering of the faithful. Farel's, Calvin's and Viret's encouragement to leave home for the sake of religion, Renée and Vincenzo Burlamacchi's accounts of refuge and Bishop Hall's criticism of pleasure tours all contribute to the construction of a specific culture of travel as a spiritual ordeal, following the paradigm of the testimony of faith that marked the religious diasporas in Europe.
