Abstract

This thesis explores the relationship between the discursive figures of the New Woman and the hysteric in two late nineteenth-century short stories, "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and "The Yellow Drawing Room" by Mona Caird, with a particular focus on forms of dialogism at the level of character discourse.
