Early and most recent Arabic legal translation studies are generally linguistic-driven and product-oriented, drawing on exploratory research based on qualitative data. Such Arabic legal translation studies utilise discourse analysis, contrastive text analysis and contrastive lexical studies. The present chapter argues that in order for Arabic legal translation studies to be comprehensive and consistent with other legal translation research, major shifts in research perspective should be marked, which would entail the use of diverse methodological approaches rather than a single linguistic approach. Such methodological approaches are not only grounded in qualitative data, but they comprise both quantitative as well as qualitative data in large samples targeting wider audience. Corpus-based approach and comparative approach on the one hand, and mixed method on the other hand, would, if employed in Arabic legal translation research, make considerable advancement through exploring multiple research questions, adopting new research technologies, testing new hypotheses and broadening target readership.
