Abstract

The dissertation focuses on the transformation of the Swiss French-speaking press firms, involving economic and societal issues. The research aims to understand how a press firm adapts in an unstable digital environment.

To address this central issue, the research proposes to understand the adaptation process in light of business model dynamics and considers this epistemological perspective to study this phenomenon, particularly in terms of activity interdependencies.

Based primarily on the inductive methodology, the study combines systematic qualitative analyses with quantitative codification and formal structural analysis. The findings show that the underlying determinants and factors contribute to variations in the adaptation process and business model reconfiguration under unforeseen conditions.

The dissertation contributes to the literature on strategic renewal, strategy-as-practice, and organizational theory by thoroughly integrating the business model approach. These contributions reveal the effects of transformation accumulation and interactions arising from internal dynamics and activity interdependencies during the adaptation process.
