Abstract

Nowadays, dental caries still is one of the most common oral diseases, affecting practically 60 to 90% of the population worldwide in all age groups. In Switzerland, the prevalence rate of early childhood caries (ECC) among children living in French-speaking area reports social inequalities as underprivileged children are more likely to develop caries. [2] Untreated caries in primary teeth negatively impact the health, growth and development of children. The use of fluorides for primary and secondary prevention is effective when applied topically and enhanced with good oral hygiene. The primary prevention is based on the patient’s caries risk factors derived from social, medical, behavioral, and past dental histories, and the secondary prevention approach is a minimally invasive and tissue-preserving treatment to manage the caries process.
