The use of fluorides for primary and secondary prevention is effective when applied topically and enhanced with good oral hygiene. The primary prevention is based on the patient’s caries risk factors derived from social, medical, behavioral, and past dental histories, and the secondary prevention approach is a minimally invasive and tissue-preserving treatment to manage the caries process.
