The aim of this thesis is to examine the variety and difference in outcomes stemming from the actions and operations of a multi-national company (MNC) in the sphere of sustaina-bility, as well as equally varied responses displayed by stakeholders in reaction to those actions. This research analyzes the dissimilar consequences of similar activities of Rio Tinto in Serbia (being a developing country) and Western Australia (being a region in a developed one), as well as the circumstances that led to a diversity in actions and reactions in these settings. It explores the origin and aftermath of the events, the extent of stakeholder par-ticipation, engagement and power in each country, as well as the associated regulatory frameworks in relation to two specific cases.
