For several years, sport federations have decided to be very stringent against doping. Therefore, athletes are tested for the presence of forbidden substances mainly in urine, but also increasingly in blood, during competition and training periods (out-of-competition tests). Sample collection and analysis are strictly regulated by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and are only performed by accredited staff-members and laboratories.
