Abstract

This report includes 11 Capstone projects from 3 editions of the Geneva Summer School Higher Education in Emergencies (2018 and 2019) held in Kenya (Nairobi and Kakuma Refugee Camp) related to the design of the Turkana West Campus, a shared higher education space launched by UNHCR in Kakuma/Kalobeyei as part of the transformation of Kakuma/Kalobeyei into an integrated settlement. The 11 projects cover different dimensions of establishing a university campus in a refugee settlement and have been contributed by 11 student groups, whose members hail from different fragile and conflict-affected countries around the world. This compilation illustrates the Higher Education in Emergencies programming cycle and accountability requirements as well as the Minimum Standards for implementation of higher education projects in fragile contexts.
