Symmetrized half-explicit methods for constrained mechanical systems

Abstract

Half-explicit methods constitute an attractive means for solving (nonstiff) constrained mechanical systems. They only need the solution of linear systems and can thus be implemented straightforwardly. This article gives a short survey of these methods and discusses several modifications which allow to increase efficiency in certain situations.
