Abstract

This thesis examines the translation problems involved in translating French political discourse for an English-speaking reader. The first section consists of an English translation of the French text “Marine Le Pen Prise Aux Mots: Décryptage du nouveau discours frontiste”. The second section discusses how the specific problems encountered were resolved in the light of translation approaches and strategies, with a particular focus on functionalism and Christina Schaeffner's work on translating political discourse. Ultimately, the findings prove that political texts are closely bound to the source culture and thus require a high degree of explication for the target-text addressee.
