Occupational stress in multicultural settings among humanitarian workers in armed conflicts

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine if gender, age, contract type, contract term, the type of position, the delegation and location, job level, seniority, nationality of origin, and selfconstrual can predict, on the one hand, JCQ's Job Demands Scale, Job Decision Latitude Scale, Job Strain Ratio, and on the other hand ERI's Effort-Reward Ratio and Overcommitment Scale. Multiple regression results showed that Contract Type predicted only JCQ's Job Demands Scale and Job Strain Ratio, but only marginally. Contract Term predicted significantly JCQ's Job Demands Scale, Job Strain Ratio, and Supervisor Support Scale, and ERI's Effort-Reward Ratio. Position Type predicted marginally JCQ's Job Demands Scale and significantly Job Strain Ratio. Location only predicted Job Decision Latitude Scale, but significantly. Country of Assignment predicted JCQ's Job Strain Ratio and only marginally.
