Chapter 1 investigates the idea of fields, which form around issues, and describes the roles of various stakeholders in structuring, shaping, and legitimating of the emerging CSR field. Chapter 2 theorizes the multilevel institutional dynamics of CSR standardization by focusing on the case of CSR rating agencies. The findings make a threefold contribution to the study of organizational standardization and CSR by shedding light on the ways in which environmental, social and governance issues are materialized and translated into figures used by market actors, describing the three core tensions faced by CSR rating agencies at each level of analysis, and bridging CSR standardization dynamics across levels of analysis. Chapter 3 explores the consolidation of the CSR rating industry and provides a detailed examination of the motivations and impacts of consolidation. La présente thèse de doctorat porte sur le rôle des agences de notation extra-financière dans l'institutionnalisation et la normalisation du champ de la RSE. Le chapitre 1 étudie la notion des champs, qui se forme autour de questions et décrit les rôles des différentes parties prenantes dans la structuration, la mise en forme, ainsi que la légitimation du champ émergent de la RSE. Le chapitre 2 théorise la dynamique institutionnelle de la normalisation de RSE à plusieurs niveaux en se concentrant sur le cas des agences de notation extra-financière. Les résultats apportent une contribution en trois volets sur l'étude de la normalisation de l'organisation et de la RSE. L'accent est tout d'abord mis sur la façon dont les questions environnementales, sociales et de gouvernance sont matérialisées et traduit en chiffres utilisés par les acteurs du marché. Puis, il décrit les trois tensions fondamentales rencontrées par les agences de notation extra-financière à chaque niveau d'analyse. Enfin, il comble la dynamique de standardisation de la RSE entre les différents niveaux d'analyse. Le chapitre 3 explore la consolidation de l'industrie de la notation RSE et fournit un examen détaillé des motivations et des impacts de la consolidation.
