A number of theorists have put forward the argument that translators should be recognised as original writers as they are said to possess the same skills and practise a very similar activity. Such scholars believe that like authors, translators should be duly compensated for their talent, granted copyright of their work and given royalties. This thesis identifies and explores in detail two strands of this claim for the translator's authorship: the poststructuralist argument and the creativity argument. It then proceeds to deconstruct these arguments in order to demonstrate the translators are in fact non-authors.
