All HDACs classes require zinc as a cofactor for catalysis whereas Sirtuins SIRT1 to 7 are dependent on NAD+ [1‐5]. The founding member of this class of deacetylases, SIRT1 (homolog of yeast silent information regulator, Sir2), is the most widely studied of the Sirtuins. Reports in yeast, nematode worms, and fruit flies described it as a promoter of stability and viability enhancer as well as lifetime extension of the organisms [6‐9].
