Restricted screening and non-adiabatic electron-phonon coupling in high-Tc oxides

Abstract

The two-dimensional structure of typical high-Tc oxides leads to weak screening of phonons which involve z-displacements and have energy larger than the electronic kz-dispersion. Frozen phonon calculations in which the screening is restricted show qualitatively the tendency for very large electron-phonon coupling of such modes. Models of non-adiabatic coupling suggest stable conditions for charge fluctuations and gaps from pairwise interactions of electronic states.
