Abstract Viruses have evolved a remarkable array of strategies to escape the host's innate immune responses. In this issue of Cell Host & Microbe, Zhao et al. (2016b) reveal a viral strategy to inactivate RIG-I signaling that relies on deamidation of RIG-I.
