Ground short wave irradiance assessement for two Indian sites

Abstract

The use of ground measurements is the only way to validate solar irradiances models, in particular all-weather satellite to irradiance models. It is therefore of great importance to apply rigorous quality control to these ground measurements in order to avoid artifacts and incorrect biases. If data acqisition are relatively dense in Europe and the United States, it is not the case in Africa or Asia, and the validation of models over these countries is more difficult. The validation of the SUNYA (State University of New York at Albany) satellite to horizontal global irradiance (GHI) and direct normal irradiance (DNI) model over the Indian territory conducted to strange results, therefore an analyze of the ground data was necessary.
