Abstract

In this article I analyze the occurrences of the term sémiologie in the texts and manuscripts of Ferdinand de Saussure (1857–1913) in the period from 1881 to the start of his Geneva years, in 1891. I offer suggestions concerning this Saussurean notion by refering to the explicit use of the term and to its contexts of use. I survey the occurrences of the term sémiologie by analyzing the corpus following a chronological criterion: from the document attested as the oldest to the most recent. e contexts and the epistemic changes show an articulated image of semiology in Saussure's work across his scientific trajectory.
